An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in maintaining teeth through endodontic therapy. After becoming a dentist, an endodontist commits to an additional two to three years of training and study of the structures and anatomical features of the interior of the tooth. Endodontics are generally the procedures that involve the soft inner tissue of a tooth, called the pulp. These procedures are more commonly known as "root canals."
