Sunrise celebrated the opening of this 18,000-square-foot recreation and learning center in June, 2008. Constructed as a joint venture with the School Board of Broward County, the Multipurpose Center features five classrooms, a gymnasium, an administrative area, office space, a lobby and a lighted parking lot. As part of the construction project, a new playground was also built at the adjacent City Park. The City's Leisure Services Department manages the gymnasium - which is the home of the Sunrise Suns professional wheelchair basketball team. The classroom wing houses the School Board's Community School South program - with classes in Family Literacy, ESOL and GED preparation.
